Gum Spring Regional Citizens Network

The Gum Spring Regional Citizens Network was established in May 2006 to address several residential rezoning applications on Gum Spring Road south of Route 50 in Loudoun County, VA.

  • We are an independent non-partisan network of Loudoun County residents who live in Dulles South near Gum Spring Road.

  • We are committed to public education and awareness on land use and transportation issues.

  • We are striving for a stronger voice in land use and transportation decisions that affect our community.

  • We support managed growth. This means adequate roads, infrastructure, and county services for County residents. It also means land use decisions that will result in higher property values for existing residents, steady property taxes, more higher paying jobs in our area, and a good quality of life for County residents.

  • We do not support any more residential rezonings along or around Gum Spring Road until all the necessary infrastructure/road improvements are complete and adequate County services are available to County residents in our area.
Together We Can Make a Difference - and already have...

Shortly after we formed, we began working with Families for Dulles South, South Riding Residents for Reasonable Growth, Ashburn Citizens United and Delegate Bob Marshall to stop the developer-initiated Dulles South/Transition Area Comprehensive Plan Amendment from being approved by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. This CPAM would have resulted in over 33,000 more homes in the area just west of Gum Spring Road, more gridlock on roads that are already overcapacity, and higher personal property taxes to pay for the infrastructure that would have been needed. Our collective grassroots efforts generated thousands of emails to the Board and resulted in several hundred residents who spoke up against this proposal at several Board public hearings. In November 2006, against all odds, we (the vast majority of Loudoun County residents) prevailed. The Transition Area CPAM was denied by the Board of Supervisors (6 out of the 9 Board members voted against this CPAM).

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."

- Margaret Mead (American Cultural Anthropologist)

Being organized enables us to:
